Wind solar power capacity grew at an incredible rate in 2018. In fact, it grew so much that wind and solar power together made up almost 10% of the world’s total electricity production! This is amazing news for the fight against climate change, as renewable energy sources like wind and solar produce zero emissions.
What’s even more impressive is that this growth was largely driven by developing countries. China, for example, installed a whopping 23 gigawatts of new wind and solar capacity in 2018 alone. That’s enough to power over 6 million homes!
So what does this all mean for the future? Well, it’s looking pretty bright (pun intended). With wind and solar capacity continuing to grow at such a rapid pace, we can only hope that soon they’ll be the dominant source of electricity around the globe. After all, there’s no time to waste when it comes to saving our planet!
